Summer vacation gives us the opportunity to unwind and refresh ourselves in preparation for the coming academic year. Have you given any thought to making your summer more productive so that you don’t waste your time lazing around all day and feeling rather aimless? We came up with these four ideas in the hopes that they will assist you in making the most of your summer!

#1: Set Goals for the Upcoming School Year

Now that you have completed another year of school, what are some goals you have for the upcoming school year?

Take some time to think back on the past year and evaluate both your successes and areas in which you feel you could improve.

Suppose you were interested in boosting your academic performance for the upcoming school year. First thing you should do this summer is compile a list of the topics and subjects that were particularly challenging for you. The next step is to determine the top three areas in which you believe you could use the most improvement, and then conduct some research to find out what options you have. This can involve enrolling in cost-free online academies like Khan Academy or contracting an online tutor through websites like Chegg.com. Check to see if your school offers any classes during the summer, and if it does, make sure to sign up for them!

#2: Be active

Your level of activity may also determine how productive your summer is. Consider going for a walk, playing a quick game of frisbee, or even scheduling a day at the beach instead of spending the entire day sleeping and eating at home. One of the most effective ways to alleviate the stress that comes with the changing of the seasons is to get in a good workout. Getting regular exercise helps reduce stress by preventing insomnia, boosting self-confidence, and clearing the mind. Endorphins are the body’s “feel good” hormones, and they are released when exercise is performed.

#3:  Rest up

Now, you don’t want to deplete all of your resource energy during the summer so that you have nothing left for the upcoming academic year. It’s possible that if you overcommit yourself during the summer, you’ll be less productive during the academic year. Working a few hours less per week is one strategy for striking a healthy balance between being productive and avoiding burnout. You will still be productive in this way, but you won’t be exhausted by the end of the school year.

#4: Challenge Yourself and Be Brave!

The time off during the summer is ideal for venturing out into the world and getting acquainted with its many wonders.  It could be something as easy as getting a new haircut, or it could involve meeting new people and possibly forming new friendships. You could even find new hobbies, either online or near you, through the help of spotivity! There are plenty of options to find activities that suit you, from casual events to possible internships. Another worthwhile challenge could be thinking and planning for your future. Start simple, what field of work do you want to go into? While this may seem like a daunting question, the Pocket Genie in Spotivity could lend you a hand. A simple quiz that gauges different aspects of your personality and interests could help guide you! Whatever it is, keep in mind that you have the entirety of the summer to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and try new things.
